District 102 Announces New Principal at Congress Park School

Claudia Jiménez, principal of Columbus West School in Cicero Public School District 99, will join La Grange School District 102’s administrative team as the new principal of Congress Park School in Brookfield.  Jiménez’s appointment was approved at the June 22 Special Board of Education meeting and she will begin her new role July 31.  She will be taking the reins following the departure of Terry Dutton, who served as Congress Park’s principal for the past five years.  Jiménez was selected after an extensive interview process that included parents, staff and administrators.  Superintendent Kyle Schumacher, Ed.D. believes Jiménez’s diverse background, commitment to parent and community involvement and her incredible passion and dedication to student learning will be an asset to the Congress Park school community.

“Mrs. Jiménez is an experienced educational leader with a strong belief that all children can thrive,” said Schumacher.  “Her rich background celebrates diversity, promotes student growth and the firm foundation already established at Congress Park will continue to be strengthened with Mrs. Jiménez at the helm.”

Jiménez has spent her entire career in Cicero Public School District 99 and has served as the principal of Columbus West School since 2010.  She also served as principal of Roosevelt School from 2006 through 2010.  In the principal role, she piloted an innovative bilingual education program, was a member of the district-level dual language committee, worked in collaboration with the district’s leadership team, assisted in the development of common assessments in both English and Spanish, and developed an informal observation tool to assist in the implementation of a new, school-wide literacy framework.  Jiménez joined the ranks of administration as the assistant principal of Roosevelt School in 2003.  She first arrived at Columbus West in 2000 in the role of school social worker.  She began her career as a bilingual kindergarten teacher at Wilson School in 1997.

A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Jiménez holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and a master’s degree in social work.  She earned her administrative certificate at Lewis University in 2003.

“I am so excited to be working in District 102,” said Jiménez.  “I’m looking forward to building relationships within my new school community so that we can come together and meet the needs of all students at Congress Park School.  We will be implementing a dual language program at Congress Park School next year, and I have always been passionate about dual language programs and their success with developing biliteracy skills in students and overall student achievement.”

A resident of Chicago and fluent in Spanish, Jiménez and her husband, Derrick, have one daughter and she enjoys traveling, spending time with her family, listening to music and attending outdoor festivals.
